Awareness is central to our mission, because awareness of PCOS leads to faster diagnosis, better funding for research, more treatment options, and most importantly, prevention of more severe chronic diseases.

Options for PCOS Management

For some time now, Insulite Labs has taken leadership in creating a formula of supplements specifically to address PCOS as its target. Insulite provides extensive data to back their claims that the ingredients within their system actually do work for insulin resistance. If you haven’t heard about Insulite Labs products, you probably haven’t visited a PCOS-focused web page in the last year. Insulite Labs seems to be very serious about delivery of their product, and their advertising reflects that mission.

Now more than ever, attention is being given to treatment options for PCOS that utilize vitamins and supplements as opposed to refined medications and surgical interventions. For some women with PCOS, a food and supplement-based approach is more aligned with their personal views on health management than are medications and invasive procedures. Other women feel more comfortable taking a complementary approach, combining clinically proven medications and/or procedures with vitamins and supplements in a supporting role.

At one time, doctors had a tendency to criticize the use of supplements in the treatment of PCOS because of non-standard dosages and lack of clinical evidence to support the claims made by proponents of supplements for the treatment of PCOS or any other condition. Also, interactions between medications and the active ingredients in the supplements were not known.

In recent years, standardization of supplements has become possible, and is now in practice by some (but far from all) manufacturers and sellers of supplement products. In addition, clinical studies have now been completed, and many more are in progress, investigating the effects of standardized supplements as well as interactions with drugs that commonly treat the same conditions.

Recently, a company called Bios Life was referred to PCOSA by a Reproductive Endocrinologist that feels that the inclusion of clinical studies is key to his support of the use of supplements. Take a look at what Lori Finlay-Hamilton (Women, Wisdom & Wellness), a Nurse Practitioner and Preventative Health Consultant, has to say about evidence-based supplement use. Click Here
